Bang Bang Sauce

Recipe: Bang Bang Shrimp

Ingredients:

For the Bang Bang Sauce:
  • ½ cup Mexican crema
  • ½ cup Mayonaise
  • 4 tablespoons chili-garlic sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons lime juice

For the Shrimp:

  • 2 pounds large (U26-30) shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1-2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Kosher salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying

For the Tacos:

  • 16 small corn or flour tortillas
  • Shredded lettuce or cabbage
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Sliced avocado
  • Sliced radishes
  • Sliced green onion
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bang Bang Sauce: In a bowl, mix together the Mexican crema, mayonnaise, chili-garlic sauce, sriracha sauce, honey, and lime juice until well combined. Set aside.

  2. Marinate the Shrimp: In a shallow dish, pour the buttermilk over the shrimp and toss to coat. Let it marinate for about 15-20 minutes.

  3. Prepare the Coating: In another shallow dish, mix together the flour, corn starch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

  4. Coat the Shrimp: Remove the shrimp from the buttermilk, letting any excess drip off. Dredge the shrimp in the flour mixture until evenly coated.

  5. Fry the Shrimp: Heat vegetable oil in a dutch oven over medium-high heat. Fry the shrimp in batches for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a metal rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  6. Assemble the Tacos: Warm the tortillas either in a skillet or microwave. Place some shredded lettuce or cabbage on each tortilla, followed by the crispy shrimp. Drizzle the Bang Bang Sauce over the shrimp.

  7. Garnish and Serve: Top the tacos with diced tomatoes, sliced radishes, sliced avocado, chopped cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice. Serve immediately and enjoy your Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos!

  8. Feel free to adjust the spice level of the sauce or add any other toppings you like to customize your tacos to your taste!
